Inpatient Admissions
In patients will have a range of sessions each day including one-on-one sessions with their Psychologist and Psychiatrist, a range of group programs as well as other activities such as exercise and art.
Our inpatient group therapy programs support recovery of patients with a wide range of mental health needs. Each unit in Toronto Private Hospital has a program designed to meet the needs of that patient population. To ensure that your time at hospital is productive, we expect you to attend three group sessions a day.
Our inpatient programs:
- Encourage a sense of empowerment by recognising your internal strength
- Promote skill building to help you plan for the future, improve your relationships, work more effectively and better function in day-to-day life
- Maintain or improve your physical wellbeing during your hospital stay
Program types:
- Exercise, health and wellbeing
- Psychoeducation
- Community access
- Introduction to different therapies, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Important Note: A referral is required from your GP or treating doctor, to a psychiatrist with admitting rights to our hospital. A member of our admissions and assessment team will conduct an over-the-phone assessment and require your health fund details. Following assessment and health fund check, we will discuss your case with one of our treating private psychiatrists, who consult to our hospital under their own independent business. On acceptance of the referral, we will contact you to arrange admission and transfer of your care and management to the approving psychiatrist.

Shane’s Story
I’ve lived with Bipolar disorder, PTSD and substance abuse for 25 years, with flashbacks from my military career triggering my condition. I hit rock-bottom earlier in the year and my Psychiatrist suggested I try the inpatient program at Toronto Private Hospital’s Woodlands Unit.
At first I felt overwhelmed and I wondered if the unit was going to be a suitable place for me, but from the moment I arrived, the staff were fantastic, which made me feel so comfortable and made my first day much easier. I also met other patients who shared their stories with me and made me feel at home.
The Woodland’s programs are exceptional and the doctors and therapists are so knowledgeable. But it’s still not easy. I’ve learnt that if you want to get a lot out of the program you must be prepared to put a lot in.
My time at Woodlands has given me a positive outlook, to keep me going. I now feel 100% and I’m ready to start a new life. I can’t fault the unit or the program and I can’t thank the staff enough. I’d encourage everyone needing support to consider the Woodland’s programs.
